How do I use the GroovBoard?
Will my GroovBoard look exactly like the one in the photo?
The photos on the website illustrate the general characteristics of the respective wood. But since no two trees look exactly alike, each unit is as unique as you are. Also note that the appearance of the GroovBoard may change over time due to natural characteristics of wood. Read the notes on wood for details.
What does B-Stock mean?
Some GroovBoards are available as B-Stock in addition to the regular stock. B-Stock items are fully functional but have small blemishes which are usually part of the wood itself, like knotholes, scratches or scars. B-Stock GroovBoards are offered at a discount over the regular stock GroovBoards. This does not apply to the "distressed" models of the GroovBoard Oak. Those models are intentionally sold with blemishes and are meant for customers who like "Shabby Chic".
Does the GroovBoard work with all iPad models?
Yes. The GroovBoard works fine with all current iPad models (iPad 1/2/3/4/Air and the iPad mini (retina and non-retina).
Does the GroovBoard work with Apple's Smart Cover?
Yes. Just insert the iPad with the Smart Cover attached so the hinge is on the top and flip the Smart Cover over the back.
Does the GroovBoard work with Apple's Smart Case?
It works in horizontal mode with the home button on the left side and with the cover of the Smart Case flipped over the backside.
Does the GroovBoard work with other tablets or the Kindle?
Possibly. An Amazon Kindle definitely works. But I don't have any other tablets to test with so I can't guarantee anything.
Does the GroovBoard work with other keyboards than the Apple Wireless Keyboard?
In flat mode, any keyboard that's not wider than the GroovBoard will work. But the upper groove for using the keyboard in upright mode is made to specifically fit the Apple Wireless Keyboard. Other keyboards may work, but will probably not fit as nicely.
The keyboard isn't sitting flat on the GroovBoard's surface and it clatters when I type. How can I solve this?
Some Apple keyboards are warped so that the small rubber feet at the front don't touch the surface it's sitting on. Here's a video that illustrates the problem:
The easiest way to solve this is to hold the keyboard in both hands like if it were a steering wheel and slightly but firmly twisting it in the appropriate direction a bit (twist the corner which doesn't have surface contact downwards).
How much does the GroovBoard weigh?
That depends on the type of wood used for a specific model. Please refer to the product details page for the GroovBoard model you're interested in.
Will my stylus fit into the GroovBoard's stylus holder?
Probably. Any stylus with a maximum diameter of 11.5 mm should fit into the stylus holders. Two styluses that do not fit due to being too thick are the Cosmonaut and the regular AluPen (the AluPen Pro works, though). The Cregle iPen might fit tip first, but only without the cap.
Styluses that fit
- Wacom Bamboo Stylus (tested)
- Adonit Jot & Jot Pro (tested)
- Just Mobile AluPen Pro (9 mm)
- Nomad Brush (looks very thin)
- Spigen SGP Kuel H10 (looks like it's thinner than the Adonit Jot Pro)
- LunaTik TouchPen (11.22 mm)
- Sensu Brush (tested)
- Hand Stylus (tested)
What's the handrest for?
When attached, you can rest your hands on the handrest while typing on the keyboard. When you detach the handrest in the GroovBoard's upright mode, you lower the position of the GroovBoard on your legs when using it with your knees pulled up. If the iPad is too high up to use comfortably in this position, just remove the handrest.
Where is the GroovBoard made?
The GroovBoard is made in southern Bavaria, Germany.
What kind of wood finish is used?
The GroovBoard is hand-rubbed with a linseed oil finish that protects the wood from moisture and lets the wood breathe. If the finish should fade over time due to use, it's easy to apply a new coat with a soft cloth.
Do you ship to my country?
Yes, the GroovBoard ships worldwide. However, if you are from Germany or Austria, please head on over to the German GroovBoard shop.
Where do you ship from?
The GroovBoard ships from Germany via DHL / Deutsche Post.
How much is shipping to my country?

When will my order arrive?
Delivery times vary greatly and depend on where you live and how long customs processing generally takes. I've had packages to Canada arrive in 8 days and packages to the USA take five weeks.
Please note that while I do my best to ensure your order passes customs as smoothly as possible, there can always be delays, especially in the USA where shipments over 500 grams are subjected to a more thorough inspection and can remain in customs for two weeks or more.
Can I track my order?
Some shipping options offer partial or full tracking. Partial tracking usually means that while you will be able to track when your order leaves the GroovBoard headquarters, tracking will end at the German border. Some countries may support door-to-door tracking even for the partial tracking shipping option. But full door-to-door tracking is only explicitly available for the shipping options that are not listed as including partial tracking.
What about customs duties?
Generally, you will have to pay any customs duties. If and how much you will have to pay varies from country to country. To find out if you will have to pay duties and how much, please contact the customs authority in your country.
How can I pay?
You can pay via Paypal or credit card (Mastercard or Visa, processed by Sage Pay). Your credit card or Paypal account will not be charged before your order ships.
VAT is short for "Value Added Tax", a sort of sales tax charged in the EU (and other countries) on (almost) all goods. Since I'm in Germany, I'm required to charge 19% VAT on all the goods I sell if the customer's shipping address is within the EU. If a customer lives outside the EU, she will not have to pay VAT. But since the store doesn't know where a customer lives before he supplies his billing address, the cart includes 19% VAT by default (as required by EU law) and subtracts the VAT upon checkout if the customers enters a billing address outside the EU. I know, sounds complicated. Wasn't my idea ;)
Do I have to pay VAT?
Only if your shipping address in an EU member country.
Can I get a refund?
Absolutely. If you're not happy with the GroovBoard for any reason, you can return it for a full refund within 30 days of receiving it. Just contact me via email and we'll work out the details.

Does the Sensu Brush require batteries or charging?

Does the Sensu need an app?
The Sensu Brush does not require a special app. Both the brush and the tip ends work in any drawing or painting app on the iPad or any other tablet computer with a capacitive screen.
